When he died in 1987 Sam Wagstaff left behind a photography collection worth $5 million at the Getty Museum. In photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who was 25 years his junior, he found not only a romantic partner, but an artistic collaborator. This compelling documentary explores the relationship between the two men during the 1970s and '80s and their influence over the New York art scene.
