The Boy Who Plays on the Buddhas of Bamiyan
In March 2001 the ruling Taliban destroyed Afghanistan's 1600-year-old Buddhas of Bamiyan, once considered the world's most remarkable representations of the Buddha. The ruins are now home to hundreds of refugees including eight-year-old Mir Hussain, a bright, energetic boy trying to survive in a country in turmoil. Director Phil Grabsky perfectly captures the joys and innocence of childhood, poverty and starvation, political uncertainty and the realities of refugee life in hostile terrain.
