King of the Cowboys
This 1943 movie was described by Variety magazine as "The latest Roy Rogers, his best by far to date." The star had just appeared on the front cover of Life magazine billed as King Of The Cowboys, which immediately became his offical nickname and gave its title to this strongly patriotic wartime story. Rogers plays a rodeo star who helps the Government track down gangsters destroying factories helping the war effort, helped by Peggy Moran as the girl, Smiley Burnette with the comedy and the Sons Of The Pioneers with the music. The finale shows Rogers bravely saving soldiers by disarming a bomb while injured himself.
